What to Know Before Ordering a Custom Suit in Phuket

By Oslo Tailor, Patong · Published 5 October 2026 · Updated 5 October 2026

Before you order a custom suit in Phuket, settle your timeline, the occasion, the fabric, how many fittings you can attend and how the suit will get home. Asking these questions up front prevents most disappointments.

1. How much time do you really have?

Everything depends on this. A suit is cut, assembled, tried on and adjusted, and each stage needs care. At Oslo Tailor, suits can be ready in 1 to 2 days after your fitting. We ask for your departure date first so we can plan the fitting early enough. Other garments, such as gowns or complex designs from a photo, depend on the item and the workload.

2. What is the suit for?

A suit for a wedding, a business meeting and a beach holiday dinner are different garments. Tell the tailor the occasion, the climate where you will wear it and how often. That decides fabric weight, lining and styling.

3. Which fabric suits the climate?

Lighter, breathable cloth is more comfortable in tropical heat, while heavier cloth holds a sharp shape in cooler places. Ask to feel several options and ask how each one wrinkles and breathes. More in our fabric guide.

4. What is included in the quote?

Whenever you get a price from any tailor, ask exactly what it covers: the fabric, the lining, the number of fittings, any alterations, and whether delivery is included. A low headline number can hide extras and a higher one can include everything. Comparing like with like is the only fair way to compare, which is why we suggest asking for the details in writing on a message. For our current approach to pricing see the prices page.

5. How many fittings will there be?

One fitting is the practical minimum for a made-to-measure suit. More is better if your schedule allows it. Read how many fittings you really need.

6. Can the tailor work from your reference?

If you have a photo of a suit you love, bring it. A good tailor can tell you which details are straightforward and which are difficult. We can work from a photo.

7. What construction is the suit?

Suits are built in different ways, and the method affects how the jacket drapes and ages. It is fair to ask the tailor to explain what they are making. See canvas vs fused suits explained for the general differences.

8. How will the suit get home?

Decide whether you will wear it on the plane, carry it in a garment bag or have it shipped. Ask the shop about hotel delivery and shipping when you order. Our guide to taking your suit home lists the practical options.

Be wary of pressure

Walking Bangla Road you will meet people inviting you into shops. You are free to say no thanks, look at several places and compare. A reputable tailor will let you leave and think. Our guide to judging a tailor gives a checklist.

A simple plan

  1. Visit a shop in your first days in Phuket, not your last.
  2. Bring a photo and your dates.
  3. Choose fabric and be measured.
  4. Book your fitting time before you leave the shop.

You can book a fitting with Oslo Tailor or message us on WhatsApp with your dates and what you want made.

Common questions

Should I order on my first day or compare shops first?

Comparing two or three shops is sensible, but do it in your first days, not your last. A short comparison early leaves time for fittings, while a late decision removes your options.

Is it rude to ask to see the inside of a jacket?

Not at all. Asking to see finished garments, the lining and the stitching is a normal part of choosing a tailor.

What if I change my mind about the style after measuring?

Say so as early as you can. Changes before cutting are far easier than changes after, and the tailor can tell you what is still possible.

Can I order a suit as a gift?

The wearer needs to be measured and fitted in person. You can come along first to choose the fabric and style together, and the recipient then visits for the fitting.
