To order a ladies’ suit or pantsuit from a photo, bring clear pictures of the style, choose a fabric, be measured and attend a fitting where the cut is adjusted to your body. We are ladies and gent custom tailors, so women’s tailoring is part of what we do every day.
Why women’s tailoring needs its own thinking
Women’s suits are cut differently from men’s: shoulders, bust, waist and hips all have to be balanced, and the jacket should be comfortable when you move. Off-the-rack suits often fit one area and not the others. Made-to-measure solves that by cutting to your proportions. Our ladies page shows some of what we make.
Step 1: Gather photos
Pick two or three photos of suits or pantsuits you like. Look at:
- The jacket length and shape: cropped, hip-length or longer
- The lapel and collar: notch, peak, shawl or collarless
- The button arrangement: single or double-breasted
- The trouser shape: straight, wide-leg, tapered, high or mid rise
- Whether it is a matching set or a contrasting blazer
Tell us what you love and what you would change. See copying a design from a photo.
Step 2: Choose fabric for the occasion and climate
For work and travel in heat, lighter, breathable fabrics are more comfortable. For evening wear, something with more drape or sheen may suit. Ask to handle the options. See fabrics for tropical heat.
Step 3: Think about how you will wear it
- Will the blazer be worn open or buttoned?
- Will you wear it with heels or flats?
- Do you want to wear the trousers and blazer separately?
- Is it for the office, an event or travel?
These answers affect the cut, the hem length and the fabric.
Step 4: Measuring
Expect measurements of bust, waist, hips, shoulders, arm, jacket length, trouser waist, rise and inseam. Wear or bring the undergarments and shoes you would normally wear with the outfit. Say if you prefer a close fit or a more relaxed one.
Step 5: Fitting
At the fitting the tailor adjusts the blazer through the shoulders and waist, checks that the bust sits comfortably and sets the trouser length. Move around, sit, raise your arms and say how it feels. Read how fittings work.
Options beyond a pantsuit
A blazer with a skirt, a tailored waistcoat, a jumpsuit or an evening dress can be discussed. For dresses and gowns, see our gown guide.
Timing
A ladies’ suit or pantsuit is a suit, so it can be ready 1 to 2 days after your fitting. For other pieces, such as gowns or complex designs from a photo, how long it takes depends on the item and the workload. Give us your departure date and we will plan the fitting.

Common questions
Can you make a suit with a skirt instead of trousers?
Yes, a skirt suit can be discussed. Bring a photo of the length and shape you want.
Can you copy a designer pantsuit?
We can follow the cut and style you like, adapted to your body. We do not reproduce brand labels or logos.
What if I am between sizes?
That is exactly where made-to-measure helps, because the garment is cut to your proportions rather than a standard size.
Can I get a matching top or waistcoat?
Tell us at the start so the fabric and pattern are planned together.
Can I change my mind about the style after the first fitting?
Small changes such as sleeve length, trouser length or the waist are normal at a fitting. Larger changes to the design are easier before cutting, so decide on the main style early and use the fitting to refine the fit.
