What to Bring to a Tailor Fitting: A First-Timer’s Checklist

By Oslo Tailor, Patong · Published 5 October 2026 · Updated 5 October 2026

Bring a photo of the style you want, the shoes and shirt you plan to wear with the outfit, and your travel dates. Wear something fitted, and keep your phone handy so you can message the shop.

The checklist at a glance

  • Reference photos
  • Your dates
  • Matching shoes
  • The right shirt or undergarments
  • Accessories, if the outfit needs them
  • Your hotel name
  • A phone with WhatsApp

1. Reference photos

Save photos on your phone of suits, jackets, dresses or details you like: a lapel shape, a neckline, a colour. Screenshots work. We can work from a photo and talk through what is possible. More in copying a design from a photo.

2. Your dates

Write down the date you leave Phuket and the date of any event, such as a wedding or dinner. These two dates decide how fittings can be scheduled. A suit can be ready 1 to 2 days after your fitting, and for other garments we tell you what is realistic once we know your dates.

3. The shoes you will wear

Trouser and hem lengths depend on shoe height. If you cannot bring them, tell us what type you will wear (dress shoes, loafers, heels, flats). For a gown, bring the heel height you plan to wear.

4. The right shirt or undergarments

For a suit, wear a well-fitting shirt that looks like the one you will wear with it. For a gown, wear the undergarments that will go with the dress, since they shape the fit. If you plan to wear shapewear, mention it.

5. What to wear on the day

  • Clothes that are easy to take on and off.
  • A fitted shirt or top rather than a bulky jacket.
  • Comfortable shoes, since you will be standing.

6. Accessories

If you will wear a belt, tie, pocket square, cufflinks or jewellery with the outfit, bring them to the fitting so you can see the whole look together.

7. Useful details

  • Your hotel name and area, in case you want delivery. Ask about hotel delivery and shipping.
  • Any physical concerns we should know about, such as an old injury that limits your movement.
  • How often you will wear the outfit and where.

8. Questions to ask us

  • How many fittings can we realistically fit before I leave?
  • What does the quote include?
  • Can I see the fabric options for hot weather?
  • How will it get home?

Things you do not need to bring

You do not need to know technical tailoring terms. If you do not know what “peak lapel” means, show a photo or just describe it. The tailor will ask questions.

What happens next

After measuring, you will agree on the next visit. Read how fittings work so you know what to expect, and book a fitting at 54/2 Bangla Road. If you need help finding us, see how to get to Bangla Road.

Common questions

What if I forget my shoes?

Tell the tailor what kind of shoes you will wear and the heel height. We can make a note, and you can bring them to a later fitting to check the hem.

Do I need to bring a fabric sample?

No. You choose the fabric in the shop. If you have a particular colour in mind, a photo helps.

Can I take photos during the fitting?

Ask first. Photos of the front, side and back can help you remember what to mention at the next visit.

Should I bring someone with me?

You can. A second opinion is useful, particularly for weddings and formal events.

Can I message photos before I visit?

Yes. Sending photos and your dates on WhatsApp before you come means we can talk through the options when you arrive, and the first visit can go straight to fabric and measuring.

Ready to plan yours?
